Wild Streets is a side-scrolling action beat 'em up game in which you fight enemies using your punches, kicks, gun and a...panther called Black Virgin!

Review
Wild StreetsSTORY / GAMEPLAY
Big street gangs of NY want to regain control over the city and, above all, secure their territories by kidnapping CIA's Head Officer (called the "Boss"). Your mission is to find and free "The Boss" and to bring him back to safety. Yoou can use your Magnum 457 and your street fighting skills to kill the gang members, but you also have a companion, a beautiful panther called Black Virgin. But most of the times this feline is almost of no use! There are five levels, each swarmed by gang members. you can kill but you can also jump over them to the next screen without having to fight (oh yes that's easy). The gameplay is inconsistent at times. It is very easy at the first two sections and then it suddenly gets much tougher. The use of flick-screen rather than scrolling means that it's certain for the main character to get caught between screens. You can easily walk through the levels by either shooting everyone (as long as you have bullets) or just running (and jumping) past them! The game is also available for the Commodore 64, Amstrad CPC and CPC+, ZX Spectrum 128k, Amiga and Atari ST.

GRAPHICS / SOUND
Technically the game looks pretty good on the CPC+, featuring vivid colors (due to its advanced color pallete) and detailed backdrops. But the sprites' animation is as they all move like...suffering from pain! Compared to the other 8bit platforms, the CPC+ game looks and feels much better though I would expect better animation from this advanced graphics hardware. Although the game uses hardware sprites for the sprites here (which run faster on the screen), the game still uses flip-screen much like the CPC version. Soundwise, the game does not offer much. There is a repetitive (and quite loud!) tune playing during gameplay, while the sound effects are very low. Honestly I was expecting more from the CPC+ version!

I played this game on my Atari STFM. A low budget game I think. The CPC+ version looks by far better than any other 8bit.
